Welcome and Blurb
Welcome to year 5 and our staff team;
Mrs Sweeney- class teacher Monday- Thursday
Mrs Baldwin - class teacher Thursday and Friday
Mrs Williams - teaching assistant Monday- Wednesday
Mrs Bailey - teaching assistant Tuesday- Friday
During year 5, we enjoy learning about different topics such as Invaders and Settlers, space and the rainforest. We link our reading and writing in English to our history, science and geography as much as possible to immerse the children in the topics.
In maths, we work hard to beat our personal bests in the weekly times tables challenge and become proficient in each of the four operations.
The children earn house points for good work, effort and behaviour and can be awarded with Good to be Green cards and a superstar is awarded weekly. A VIP is also chosen each day based on good work/ attitude from the day before.
Each week, we have guitar lessons and perform for our friends and parents at then end of the year to show of our skills.
At the end of the year, there is an option for children to participate in an overnight camping residential where we either canoe or walk to our campsite before putting up our tents and making dinner over a camping stove.
We also have a link with the children at Green Lane school and groups of children take part in visits to each others’ school each half term; enjoying games, art and baking together.
To support learning in school, we expect the children to read three times a week at home which can include our online reading programme, Reading Plus where the children progress the levels developing comprehension, vocabulary and reading fluency to earn awards. The children are also expected to learn their weekly spelling and practice their times tables using the games in Times Table Rockstar.
Further work and links can be found in your child's Google Classroom
